HILLWOODS ACADEMY ORGANISES ORIENTATION AND GRADUATION CEREMONY

Good and effective communication skills shape the personality of an individual.

Educationist and experienced teacher educator, Dr. Ritu Narang conducted an interactive thought provoking session. She laid emphasis on effective communication skills. For inculcating good communication skills, we must be an avid reader, and should have good writing skills. The power of communication cannot be expressed in a piece of writing. It can be expresses and experienced only by good communicating and interacting skills.
Dr. Saroj Sharma, our school counsellor apprised the parents about the rules and regulations of the school. She highlighted that without rules and regulations success cannot be achieved.
Head Mistress congratulated the students and urged the parents to give quality time to their wards, stress on enhancing speaking listening & reading skills and read the school almanac for discipline, punctuality, activities conducted in school and assessment schedule. She urged the parents to attend all the parent teacher meetings and be well aware of their child�s development.

Orientation Programme for class XII and their parents began on a positive note encouraging the students entering class XII, the sinal year of the school to be positive, committed and stermined to attain success.
Guest speaker of the day, Dr. Ritu Narang, experience teacher educator and Resource person with Oxford University Press was felicitated by the head of the institution. Dr. Narang started an interactive session with parents by asking them the problems faced in general by all parents when dealing with adolescents. She also took up the major issues or areas which are cause of stress for the students.
Motivating the students to excel in life, she urged them to be confident, assertive and have a good personality. She also asked them to confide in their parents, talk to them about their problems or stress they face as unless there is good rapport between parents and children, the desired goals cannot be achieved.
The principal of the school laid emphasis on regularity, punctuality, discipline and proper uniform for class XII students. She urged the parents to ensure that their ward attend school regularly and perform well in the academics.
She once again reminded the parents to read school almanac for rules and not allow their wards to bring mobile phones or vehicle to school, otherwise school will take strict disciplinary action.
Motivating the students to work hard, focused and regular in their studies, she guided them not to stress themselves and share their problems with their teachers as well as the parents. In the finishing year of their school, they must set new benchmarks for all to follow and attain success in life.

Stepping into a new world, the kindergarten students entering Class- I were brimming with joy and enthusiasm on the occasion of their graduation ceremony.
The parents were immensely happy to see their wards wearing graduation caps & gowns.
Scrolls were given to Class � I entrants by the head of the institution. Beautifully wrapped gifts to all the children sponsored by PTA Executive Council brought smiles to their faces.
The head mistress apprised the parents about the transition which the children are going to have entering primary section and how to prepare their wards for them.
The school counselor gave important guidelines to parents regarding �Good Parenting� and how to give quality time to their children and inculcate in him/ her values of discipline, punctuality and sense of commitment from the formative years.
The Principal congratulated and blessed the little ones for embarking on their ne w journey, she urged the parents to maintain effective contact with their words teachers to know about their progress and development.


HILLWOODS ACADEMY HOSTS SHAM PRITHVI "I AM THE EARTH"

�Earth provides enough to satisfy everyone�s need, but not every man�s greed� said Mahatma Gandhi

For dissemination of message of environmental conservation to save mother earth, Hillwoods Academy joined hands with Precious Planet, an NGO and Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania. To spread awareness among the young and to make them part of a global project �Aham Prithvi�, Precious Planet organization conducted poetry and drawing competition for junior students. A skit on mother earth was the highlight of the day. Enthusiastic participation by young eco crusades in competitive events was immensely appreciated and applauded by esteemed guests. Ms. Diana Mickevience, Minister Counselor, Embassy of Republic of Lithuania graced the occasion and awarded the winners.
Ms. Nijole G Wolmer, President Planet Citizens Union, Lithuania urged the students to join hands with NGO�s working for spreading social awareness towards the earth globally as the only home we all have is our earth. She motivated the young children to form a global chain cutting across geographical boundaries to convey the message through culture and education of peace and human kindness.
It was a good opportunity for students to interact with people from a different culture and region but for a common purpose �To save Mother Earth�.


BLOOD DONATION CAMP AT HILLWOODS ACADEMY

�Life is precious, save it by Donating Blood�

Community Service Club of the school in association with Red Cross Society of India organised blood donation camp on 25 January, 2014.
The club members sensitized parents, teachers and senior students to come forth for a noble cause. Caring for others and volunteering for help in a generous way is a gratifying and joyous feeling and this message was conveyed to all.
Efforts of the volunteers resulted in a large number of parents, teachers and supporting staff coming ahead to donate blood.
Generating the feeling of community service among students is the motto of the club and serving the needy is the purpose with which the club incharge and students work incessantly.
Overall, the camp was a great success and a generous and humane gesture.


HILLWOODS ACADEMY ORGANISES CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL
 

 

Christmas Carnival at Hillwoods Academy was organised by Junior School on 24 December, 2013. Amidst the cheering and wishes for a Merry Christmas, the carnival began on a cheerful note. Colourful stalls, Christmas bonanza, joyful rides and sumptuous delicacies witnessed the participation by students and parents, young and old alike.
Innovative and challenging games like the magic bag, squeeze it out, hunger jokes, the fortune teller, ball in the bin and many more attracted the students to try their luck and win exciting prizes.
The Christmas stall appealed and attracted everyone with an assured gift for everyone. Bouncy, roller coaster, merry go round, Columbus were the joyrides immensely enjoyed by the children.
Special home shows like Antakshri, know thy grandchild and one minute games show popular and attracted huge crowds were highlights of the day for grandparents.
With a rip in the air, the carnival ushered in a cheerful and wonderful New Year 2014 for one and all.


HILLWOODS ACADEMY CELEBRATES XVIII ANNUAL FUNCTION

JUNIORS, 6 DECEMBER, 2013
 

Hillwoods Academy, Preet Vihar, celebrated its Junior School Annual function on 6th December, 2013 in the school premises. The programme commenced with the lighting of inaugural lamp by hon�ble Chief Guest �Smt. Rama Pandey�, an acclaimed TV broadcaster, producer, director and writer. Annual Report was presented by the headmistress, Ms. Seema Ray. The cultural programme began with a rendition by the choir group which gave a solemn beginning to an eventful cultural extravaganza. Enactment of Mark Twain�s famous English play �The Million Pound Note� was a light hearted story with a deep insight into the norms of society. The play was followed by a medley of poems which explored the deep connection between humans and the animal world. The kindergarten students looked fabulous in their colourful attire and tapping their feet on the lovely music gave an enchanting dance performance. After such a colourful presentation, the �Dilli Hamari Rajdhani� a dance drama took the viewer� s down the memory lane. Recapitulating the History of Delhi from Indraprastha to New Delhi, the drama was indeed spectacular.
The Chief Guest spoke in glowing terms appreciating the applaudable efforts made by young Hillwoodians for the cultural show. She motivated the children to be zestful individuals full of vivacity & verve. The most prestigious award Avdhoot Bhagwan Ram Gold Medal for the best student was conferred upon Akshita Jain of class V. The all-rounders & achievers for the year 2013 were awarded by the Chief Guest. The show stealer was the Dance Drama �Delhi Hamari Rajdhani� as awards for best stage, group direction item and were given to the story of building & rebuilding of Delhi. PTA excellence awards were given to sportsperson and the zonal athletic team.
It was a great cultural evening immensely enjoyed by the audience.


SENIORS, 7 DECEMBER, 2013
 

Hillwoods Academy celebrated its Senior School XVIII Annual Function on Saturday, 7 December 2013. The crisp December evening was ideal for a vibrant cultural bonanza that displayed the student�s innate talents.
Honourable, Shri H.L. Dutt, an acclaimed educationist graced the occasion. The eminent guest lighted the auspicious inaugural lamp. The Annual School Report was presented by the Principal, Ms. Rita Srivastava.
The programme began on a solemn and sonorous note. To invoke the blessings of Divine Lord, students presented a welcome dance.
A theatrical drama by Charles Dickens �A Christmas Carol� was enacted by the students. The play is centered around the theme of social injustice and poverty. The highlight of the evening was the Nritya Natika �Navras�. God has created the universe with an array of colors to enrich the lives of those around us. Depicting human emotions, the dance drama mesmerized the spectators. Followed by Nritya Natika, students presented modern interpretation of �Seven Sins�.
The Chief Guest addressed the gathering and gave away the prizes. The most prestigious award Avdhoot Bhagwan Ram Gold Medal for the best student was conferred upon Jatin Sharma of class XII. The CBSE achievers were honoured. The P.T.A. Excellence Awards were given to the students who have excelled in academics, sports and co-curricular activities. Vedang Jain was awarded the Best Sports Person for the year 2013. Sanchi House was declared the Best House.
Best Actor and Best Actress Awards were bagged by Varun Sobti and Ishleen Kaur. Navras was judged the best item of the evening.
The Headmistress proposed the Vote of Thanks.
The function was highly appreciated by all.


HILLWOODS ACADEMY IN ASSOCIATION WITH SPIC MACAY
ORGANISES DANCE RECITAL BY MS. RAMA VAIDYANATHAN

To dance is to reach for a word that doesn�t exist
To sing the heart song of a thousand generations
To feel the meaning of a moment in time

Hillwoods academy hosted Virasat 2013 under the aegis of SPIC MACAY, the society for the promotion of Indian classical music and culture amongst youth. It was a rare privilege for the school to organise dance performance by renowned bharatnatyam exponent, Ms. Rama Vaidyanathan.
A disciple of legendary dancer Smt. Yamini Krishnamurthy and guru Smt. Saroja Vaidyanathan, she brings to her dance a rare sense of devotion and dedication making the audience spellbound and enthralled.
The programme began with lighting of the lamp seeking lord�s blessings to embark on a path of happiness and bliss. Madam, Rama Vaidyanathan intiated her dance recital by invocation to the Almighty for His blessings. She began her mesmerizing performance by �Mayuralaripu�, the way a peacock dances in the rain under dark clouds representing happiness and joy. The whole act was based on �mayurahastha� mudra. Tracing back the origins of bharatnatyam to ancient times when sage Bharat wrote �Natyashastra� a scientific and codified shastra followed till date by bharatnatyam dancers, she explained different nuances of dance form.
She emphasized that facial expressions, postures and music synchronized together brings out the beauty of the dance. For narrating �Krishna leela�, she rendered nine emotions through facial expressions. The way she emoted �Nine Rasas� enthralled the young audience. Her beautiful dance postures and eye movements were sheer bliss and touched the hearts of everyone present.
A heavenly and ethereal performance was immensely enjoyed by students from different schools of Delhi. The young learners of bharatnatyam were greatly inspired by her devotion and commitment to the classical dance form.


Hillwoods Academy at Udbhav Utsav: An International dance festival

Udbhav, a prominent organization representing Indian culture at international level had organised �Udbhav utsav�, a prominent dance festival from 25th October to 27Th October at Gwalior, H.P.
Dance Troupe of Hillwoods Academy had also participated in the International Dance Festival which provided them an excellent opportunity to meet and closely watch renowned artists and cultures of India and Abroad. Dancing institutes of France, Greece, Malaysia , Srilanka, Nepal, Thailand and many other countries took part in Udbhav Utsav. Competing with so many international teams. Our group bagged 3rd position in classical group category bringing laurels to the school. Indeed, a matter of great pride for the students and the school for a commendable performance at international level.


HILLWOODS ACADEMY ORGANISES ANTI CRACKER RALLY

The Eco-Club of Hillwoods Academy in association with the Department of Environment, Delhi Government, organised �Anti Cracker Rally� on 1st November 2013. The rally aimed at sensitizing the students and the people about the hazardous effects of burning crackers.
The students along with their teachers enthusiastically participated in the rally. The students holding colourful banners like �Say No to Crackers�, �Crackers are environmental abuse� started their march from school at Preet Vihar passing through the surrounding areas of the school.
Street plays were organised in the school premises to make the students aware of the anti-cracker campaign and to spread the message of a �Clean and Green Diwali. The students gave the message that one should keep the environment clean and should not pollute the environment with the noise and smoke of crackers.
Universal Public School students joined the rally at old CBSE building, Preet Vihar. All students joined their hands together to motivate themselves and the commuters to celebrate a safe and cracker free Diwali. They also performed a skit highlighting the exploitation faced by children in cracker factories and how it can be avoided and done away with.
The school took several steps to educate the students about living in a clean and green environment. Students participated in a number of activities which brought them closer to the environment. It�s high time that the young minds get sensitized about the worsening condition of the environment with each passing day.
As very correctly said by Robert Orben, �There is so much pollution in the air now that if it weren�t for our lungs there�d be no place to put it all.�


HILLWOODS ACADEMY ORGANISES CONFLUENCE
 

 

Confluence 2013, an inter school event organized at Hillwoods Academy provided an arena to the students to display their artistic endeavours. Active and enthusiastic participation by a large number of schools in a myriad of activities pertaining to languages, social science and commerce made the event a great success.
The fest was initiated with lighting of the auspicious lamp by the head of the institution followed by a melodious rendition of a song seeking Almighty�s blessings by the junior choir group.
A PowerPoint presentation on rising prices and Inflationary trends in India�s economy in recent years was shown. A lot of innovative ideas came forth in the competitive events like Word pyramid; Enactment and mime function organized by English Department.
PowerPoint Presentation on Modern Hindi Literature gave a closer look into literary trends in India. Debate on Gender sensitization highlighted the need to sensitize students on Gender issues from the formative years.
Designing E - Newspaper and Quest, the Commerce Quiz had students raking their brains to come up with new ideas by designing or quest for knowledge
Departmental Exhibitions by English, Hindi, Social Science and Commerce was highly appreciated by Judges Teachers and parents. Dexterity, hard work and desire to excel were witnessed in exhibits made of Parliament House, Supreme Court, RBI and colony on Mars.
Eminent Personalities from diverse streams judged the competitive events and applauded the learners for exhibiting creativity, innovativeness and ingenuity.
The Head of the Institution and honourable judges gave trophies to the winners of competitive events encouraging them to be participative and excel to win.

EDUCATIONAL FAIR AT HILLWOODS ACADEMY

Talents are common, everyone has them- but rare is the courage to follow our talents where they lead.
It�s not what you achieve; it�s what you overcome that what defines your career.
With an aim to bridge the gap between students and their destination to successful life, an educational fair was organized at Hillwoods Academy in collaboration with Edu Solutions Pvt. Ltd .The highlight of the fair was the presence of renowned Career Counsellor, Ms. Usha Albuquerque, Director, Careers Smart.
She informed the students that you have about one million options to choose from. Her immense knowledge and expertise in the field of counseling would help the students to equip them to choose right options for their careers. She urged the students to believe in themselves, make an informed decision and they will surely succeed. Always keep more than one option ready so that you have a wider choice.
Students from many schools attended the fair and benefited from the advice given by Ms. Usha empowering them to broaden their horizons. The participation of various educational institutions provided wider options to students from different streams. IQ tests were also conducted to test learners� aptitude and interest for effective career planning.
The fair was a great success as students in large number attended the fair.


INTERACTIVE SESSION WITH HON�BLE CHIEF MINISTER SMT.SHEILA DIKSHIT

The students of Hillwoods Academy were given a golden opportunity to interact with Hon�ble Chief Minister Smt. Sheila Dixit.
On being asked by the students about the most important factor for becoming leader, Madam stressed on sincerity and commitment towards society. The leader is the one who takes the initiative and has to be disciplined and ready to face challenges in life.
Respected madam urged students to focus on their studies and later on after gaining experience and maturity, take up the role of a role model or a leader.
In her long career as the Chief Minister of Delhi, she has faced many challenges. Infact she remarked �Every moment is a challenge� and one has to face it with indomitable spirit and courage keeping the larger interest of community in mind.
Students had a novel experience talking to her and gained immensely from her valuable advice.


KALAKRITI FESTIVAL AT HILLWOODS ACADEMY

Hillwoods Academy , Delhi organized Art and Craft Festival �KALAKRITI� on 24th August 2013 in which many reputed schools of Delhi participated with great enthusiasm and exuberance .An Aarray of art activities like Ikebana ,face painting , paper bag making , miniature painting etc. were organized to unleash the potentials and creative expressions of young artists.
The choir group of the school presented a song paying an ode to variety of art forms. A skit highlighting the assimilation of schools of art cuts across boundaries and brings people of the world on a common platform.
Down the memory lane ,a power point presentation depicting the beautiful journey taken by the fest which is in its 7th year was highly appreciated by the audience. Art Exhibition with its beautiful display of best out of waste made by students from different age groups was the attraction of the day.
Eminent artists judged the competitive events and applauded the participants for their ingenuity and creative art expressions. The head of the institution congratulated the winners and appreciated their strive for excellence and perfection. Attractive prizes and merit certificates were given to the winners of competitive events by the host school to encourage maximum participation and the competitive spirit to win accolades.

To celebrate 66 Independence Day and to pay rich tributes to freedom fighter, Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic and enthusiasm at Hillwoods Academy. The head of the institution unfurled the tricolor national flag amdet the solemn tunes of national anthem played by the school band at 7.45a.m on 15 August, 2013. Children flew balloons with messages on universal peace and amity sent by Hillwoods Academy.
A short cultural programmed was organized to pay homage to our national leaders and freedom fighters, choir groups, junior as well as senior sang songs glorifying the sacrifices by patriots.
A small skit by junior student urged everyone to live in harmony and peace. Mesmerizing performance by senior student-skit idolizing the great national leaders was highly appreciated by the audience.
Teachers also paid homage to the soldiers and patriots for their commitments towards their motherland. Respected Principal Madam urged the young students to be conscientious in their way to India�s progress. She extended her heartfelt hands to all the parents and student for attending the celebrations.


ECO SEMINAR AT HILLWOODS ACADEMY
 

 

Eco Seminar was organised at Hillwoods academy on July 27, 2013 in the presence of distinguished guest Dr. Deshbandhu and guest speakers Ms. Aarti Verma and Ms. Supriya Singh, an ESD educator from TERI. On this occasion another issue of �Green Page� was released by the Principal of the school. A short film on the �Uttarakhand Disaster� emphasized how it could have been averted, had we humans not taken nature for granted.
Presentation of Eco Club activities conducted in school was shown to all the invited guests and school students. A dance performance on environment by the students made everyone realize how important it is to preserve it. Ms. Aarti Verma sensitized everyone how important is the role of tigers to maintain the ecological balance and the very existence of human beings. She emphasized that how children can be the ambassadors of environment to provide future generations, a greater and a healthier place to live in.
Ms. Supriya Singh made the students realize that humans and environment are not separate entities but are a part of it. She talked about TERI�s initiative �SEARCH� where knowledge is being put into action. Students are taught the ways to recycle as one man�s waste is other man�s resource. She shared her experience of her visit to Antarctica where she witnessed how fast the glaciers are melting due to the global warming. She showed products made by recycling Terapacks-notebooks, roofing sheets etc which are greener options. Hillwoods Academy has been a part of this green-initiative with TERI.
Competitive events were organised to sensitize students about environmental issues and how ther have to strive for a clean and green world. Plantation of saplings was done by the guests as well as teachers and students from invited schools. A visit to Recycling Unit, Herbal Garden, Roli Poli and Science Park won appreciation for the Eco initiatives by school.
Eco exhibition with display of products made out of waste products and newspapers was the major attractions of all.
The seminar ended with prize distribution for competitive events conducted in school. Accolades and applauds to the winners and participants by the head of the institution was indeed a motivation for them to be Green Crusaders.

 


INVESTITURE CEREMONY
SENIORS

�A prefect is one who puts duty above self and ensures that
the students observe all the rules of good conduct that makes a Hillwoodian stand out�

Hillwoods Academy, Preet Vihar organized an investiture ceremony for seniors on 16 April, 2013 to select the prefectorial board. Jatin Sharma and Sanjana Arora were selected for the post of headboy and headgirl respectively. Nilay Srivastava and Mehak Tyagi were given the honour of school prefects. Shruti Jain and Himanshu Kattar were given the responsibility of maintaining discipline in the school. Graphics head, Harshit Yadav and Kartikey Sharma & Activity coordinator, Nikita Joshi and Shubham Sharma were assigned the responsibility of co-curriculum activities. The oath ceremony was conducted by head boy and head girl to solmenise the special occasion.
Last year�s head boy and head girl, Aradhya Neeraj and Ayesha Sareen urged the council members to work with determination, devotion and perseverance. The head of the institution blessed the newly appointed students� council and inspired them to work incessantly to uphold the ideals of their alma mater.

JUNIORS

School is a child�s second home where he learns to tread the path as a responsible citizen. The �Investiture Ceremony� is conducted every year as the first and an important step on the path of responsibility, where a committed and disciplined team of students was selected for the prefectorial board for the junior section. The Head of the Institution honoured the newly appointed council members with their badges.
Pranav Rastogi and Akshita Jain were selected as the Head Boy and Head Girl of Junior School respectively. The student council that also included the co-curriculum, cleanliness, discipline and sports incharges took the solemn oath to shoulder their responsibilities with sincerity.
Head Mistress urged the students to take up their duties with utmost devotion. Principal Madam motivated the junior students to meet up to the expectations of their teachers and their alma mater.
Let be role models for others and set a precedent for everyone.


CBSE RESULTS

ORIENTATION PROGRAMME

Benjamin Disraeli aptly remarked, �Change is in evitable. Change is constant.�
Entering into a school is a very significant transition and a turning point in a student�s life. For new members of Hillwoods family, Orientation programme was held in the school premises for the parents for apprising them of the school�s educational system, rules and regulations and fostering cooperation between parents and teachers for holistic development of young learners.
The school counselor gave important guidelines to parents for inculcating good eating and sleeping habits in their wards. The headmistress familiarized them with the school system and the head of the institution extended a warm welcome to parents as well as nursery class children and asked the parents to foster values of punctuality, discipline and moral ethics in their wards.
Orientation programme was held for the senior classes to make the parents understand the Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation system and importance of life skills. Eminent guest speakers informed the parents about scholastic and co-scholastic areas. Ms. Madhu Sharma, internationally trained psychometrician, emphasized on value based education and urged parents to support the intellectual curiosity of their wards and be available to them for support and care.
An excellent learning experience was provided by Resource person from Oxford, Ms. Monica Sharma who gave valuable suggestions on how to improve communication skills and enhance vocabulary enrichment. Through various activities involving parents and students, Resource person Mr. Vivek Kumar, made parents realize the importance of motivating the young learners to perform well and excel in whatever they do. Problems faced by students in the new education system were also taken up and suggestions to overcome them were given by the resource person.
School counselor took up the issue which the teenagers have and asked the parents to devote quality time to their wards by talking to them, listening to their problems abd guiding them so that the transitional phase they are in, passes smoothly and positively. Headmistress of the school reminded the parents to read the school diary containing rules and regulations, activities of the school, assessment schedule etc. She also laid emphasis on keeping NCERT books as the base for all subjects and giving importance to English as a subject.


GRADUATION CEREMONY

Stepping into new world, the kindergarten students entering Class I were brimming with zeal and enthusiasm on the graduation ceremony held for them in the school premises. The parents felt proud when their wards were made to wear graduation caps and gowns. Scrolls were handed over to class I entrants by the head of institutions. Members of PTA Executive council handed over beautifully wrapped gifts to all the children which brought smiles to their faces. Speaking on the occasion, the Principal blessed the little ones for embarking.
On their journey to the primary section, parents were asked to help their children to adopt to new syllabus and extension of time spent in school.
The graduation ceremony ended on a promising note with the hope for a fruitful session.
