Students of Hillwoods Academy give exemplary performance
“We dance for laughter, we dance for tears, we dance for madness, we dance for fears, we dance for hopes, we dance for screams, we are the dancers, and we create dreams.”
It was the 11th International Cultural Fest Udbhav Utsav 2014 which gave us multiple identities with one thing in common – ‘dancers’. For the Delhites we were dancers from Hillwoods Academy, for other states we were delegates from Delhi and for foreigners we were Indian dancers. It was in Gwalior that we got an opportunity to built up our confidence, understand different cultures and of course dance with the best of our abilities.
Udbhav is a prominent organization representing Indian culture at International level. It is not only a cultural programme but also involves sports meet which opens every year with a march past. This year there were five foreign countries participating in the event-Azerbaijan, Kyrgystan, Nepal, Srilanka and Russia. The event was established under the guidance of Scindia dynasty who play a major role in the preservation of Indian culture. The tour included a lot of practice sessions, dressing up for the different dance performances enjoying the regal splendor of princely state of Gwalior.
The Scindia Palace was one of the places we visited and were mesmerized by the artefacts displayed in the palace. We also visited a Gurudwara on the auspicious day of Guru Nanak Jayanti. The level of the competition was so high that even a small mistake would have been catastrophic. Attaining the second position was truly a proud moment for all of us. It was a great experience to interact with dancers from not only India but from many foreign countries. Amalgation of different cultures at one common platform was indeed spectacular.
“When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor, its to enjoy each step along the way.”
