Ms. Asha Nayar, a renowned educational psychologist & counsellor conducted a workshop for the teachers of Hillwoods Academy on student teacher rapport. She covered almost all aspects of building rapport & motivating the students. The session began by sharing opinion about good qualities that one remembers about one’s teacher & traits which one doesn’t like in a teacher. Construction of good self image & self esteem by the use of positive language and kind words was emphasized. She laid stress on the habit of praising in the class & scolding in private.
Qualities of a good teacher were discussed and inputs from survey done were added. It was followed by an activity to know your colleagues well. A list of favourites was filled by everyone & redistributed. Then each teacher was asked to identify the teacher whose list is given to her. Basics of social rapport – Communication skills, non-verbal & verbal communications, attitude, comprehensions & listening skills were discussed in detail and how they help in effective teaching. Intellectual rapport & multiple intelligence were explained and their importance in classroom teaching. The workshop was informative, effective & helpful in improving one’s skills and how to be an effective teacher.
